The Latin:

Ecce ego mitto ángelum meum, et præparábit viam ante fáciem meam : et statim véniet ad templum suum Dominátor quem vos quǽritis, et ángelus testaménti quem vos vultis. Behold I send my angel, and he shall prepare the way before my face. And presently the Lord, whom you seek, and the angel of the testament, whom you desire, shall come to his temple. The English:

Sing praise, and rejoice, O daughter of Sion: for behold I come,

and thou shalt know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to thee.
And the Lord shall possess Juda his portion in the sanctified land:

The English:

I will give glory to thee, O Lord, O King,

[The prayer continues of course. Davidic type of song. Notice how the Holy Name is used not as a given name but as describing the personality of God. ]

The English:

And a voice came out from the throne, saying: Give praise to our God, all ye his servants; and you that fear him, little and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of great thunders, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord our God the Almighty hath reigned. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give glory to him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath prepared herself. And it is granted to her that she should clothe herself with fine linen, glittering and white. For the fine linen are the justifications of saints.

[That's right. The Church is decorated with the merits of the saints.]

We shall say much, and yet shall want words:
but the sum of our words is, He is all.
What shall we be able to do to glorify him?
For the Almighty himself is above all his works.

for he will yet far exceed, and his magnificence is wonderful.
Blessing the Lord, exalt him as much as you can:
for he is above all praise.
When you exalt him put forth all your strength, and be not weary:

The English:

[Why, who could this one be, like the son of man? These visions of the prophets, St. John included, are nightmarish indeed.]

[I was watching a program on the Discovery Channel about Revelation recently. Of course, it was all about evangelical 'christianity', people in large stadiums holding up their hands and chanting. Pastors singing about Apocalypse. One pastor dared to deny the existence of Hell. His lovey-dovey impression of the Lord Almighty does not allow the existence of Gehenna. All true believers, says he, will be caught up in the rapture while everyone else suffers down on earth.]

The English:

When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. 17 He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep.

["Lovest thou me?" English doesn't translate the two meanings of love. Bring back the Latin, if not the Greek. Perhaps St. Peter was not upset because it was asked three times, as I believe we were repeatedly taught in Catechism. Perhaps he was upset because the Lord changed his meaning.]

The English:

And when I had seen him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying: Fear not. I am the First and the Last, and alive, and was dead, and behold I am living for ever and ever, and have the keys of death and of hell.

[As always and as the angels, the Lord greets his friend with the same words. "Do not fear."]

The English:

Dearly beloved, let us love one another, for charity is of God. And every one that loveth, is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God: for God is charity. In this is charity: not as though we had loved God, but because he hath first loved us, and sent his Son to be a propitiation for our sins.

Si quis mihi minístrat, me sequátur, et ubi sum ego, illic et miníster meus erit. Si quis mihi ministráverit, honorificábit eum Pater meus. Nunc ánima mea turbáta est. Et quid dicam ? Pater, salvífica me ex hac hora. Sed proptérea veni in horam hanc : Pater, clarífica nomen tuum.

Venit ergo vox de cælo : Et clarificávi, et íterum clarificábo.

The English:

Amen, amen I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die, itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal.

If any man minister to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my minister be. If any man minister to me, him will my Father honour. Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name.

A voice therefore came from heaven: I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
